Materials:

Fingering or lace weight yarn - small amount
2 - 2.25 mm double point needles
tapestry needle
pins for blocking

Dimensions: 1-7/8" wide, 7" long

Abbreviations:

BO - bind off
CO - cast on
inc - increase
k - knit
k2tog - knit two stitches together
p - purl
RS - right side
sl - slip stitch from left to right needle (knitwise, unless otherwise noted)
ssk - slip, slip, knit (slip 2 stitches individually knitwise to the right hand needle and knit them through the back)
st - stitch
WS - wrong side
yo - yarn over

Instructions:

CO 3 sts.

Row 1 (WS): Knit

Row 2 (RS): K1, inc 1 st, k1, inc 1 st, k1

Row 3: Knit

Row 4: K2, inc 1 st, k1, inc 1 st, k2

Row 5: Knit

Row 6: K2, inc 1 st, k3, inc 1 st, k2

Row 7: Knit

Row 8: K2, inc 1 st, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, inc 1 st, k2

Row 9: K4, p3, k4

Row 10: K2, inc 1 st, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, inc 1 st, k2

Row 11: K4, p5, k4

Row 12: K2, inc 1 st, (k2tog, yo) 2 times, k1, (yo, ssk) 2 times, inc 1 st, k2

Row 13: K4, p7, k4

Row 14: K2, (k2tog, yo) 2 times, k3, (yo, ssk) 2 times, k2

Row 15: K3, p9, k3

Row 30: K3, (k2tog, yo) 2 times, k1, (yo, ssk) 2 times, k3

Row 31: K4, p7, k4

Row 32: K2, (k2tog, yo) 2 times, k3, (yo, ssk) 2 times, k2

Row 33: K3, p9, k3

Row 34: K3, (yo, k2tog) 2 times, k1, (ssk, yo) 2 times, k3

Rows 36 - 43: Repeat rows 34 & 35 4 more times

Repeat Rows 26 - 43 2 more times.

Knit 5 rows (garter stitch), increasing 1 st in center of last row (16 sts)

Picot Bind Off:

* WS facing, cast on 2 sts to right needle. (Backwards loop or e-wrap is easiest for this.) Turn work. (RS) Bind off 2 sts purlwise. Turn. Transfer last st to right needle, twisting it to the proper orientation and bringing yarn to back. (One picot formed) (WS) Bind off 3 sts knitwise.*

Repeat between *s, ending with picot.

Bind off last st. Weave in ends and block.
